Take Me Home, 35 min

Betty, came to Italy in 2002 to escape the worst economic crisis ever to strike Ecuador. In Italy, she remarried an Italian and had two children; but when he abused her badly, her kids were taken away by Italian Social Services. She was left alone and received no help. With all her love she is fighting, with the support of fellow immigrant mothers that faced a similar situation, to get their kids back.

Daysi Burbano H.

Daysi Burbano es periodista, directora, productora y editora. NaciĂł en Quito - Ecuador. DespuĂ©s de estudiar Periodismo en la Universidad CatĂłlica del Ecuador comenzĂł a trabajar como consultora de medios independientes para empresas locales, organizaciones gubernamentales y no gubernamentales. Daysi obtuvo un MFA en Cine Documental de la Escuela de Artes Visuales en Nueva York. En sus trabajos ha abordado crĂticas realidades como la migraciĂłn, la violencia de gĂ©nero y la contaminaciĂłn en la AmazonĂa ecuatoriana.
Daysi fue voluntaria en la ONG "AcciĂłn EcolĂłgica", donde fue activista a cargo de varias actividades culturales. Su trabajo de voluntariado fueron cruciales en su vida ya que estas experiencias le permitieron dar los primeros pasos oficiales en la direcciĂłn y producciĂłn de cortometrajes de ficciĂłn y documentales sociales. Entre los más destacados: “Somos la pequeña Luz” parte de la campaña AmazonĂa por la Vida, proyecto ITT-YasunĂ (2008); “Hijos de la MigraciĂłn”(2009);“Abandono en la Selva” y “CrĂłnicas de un Gol”(2010) con la co-producciĂłn del colectivo SinPepa Producciones y AcciĂłn EcolĂłgica.

Durante su estadĂa en New York, Daysi dirigiĂł y produjo 6 cortos documentales: “ChinaTown”- city symphony (2014); “Illustration, a passion”(2014);
“My Second Chance”(2014)“; “American Dream”(2015); “My back Up Plan” (2015); “Stories of Dance” (2015); “Take Me Home” (2016).

Actualmente terminó su primer largometraje titulado “Madre Luna” que es un retrato de familias migrantes latinoamericanas que cuestiona el sistema italiano de protección de menores, donde se vulnera el derecho de niños y adolescentes. El primer WIP de este documental fue presentado en la Escuela de Artes Visuales de Nueva York, 2016. En Marzo del 2017 este documental se llevó tres premios de post-producción en el WIP Femcine7, cine de mujeres en Chile.
Daysi cree que el cine de no ficción puede inyectar esperanza en el presente de los espectadores a través de la proyección de su pasado, de la reconstrucción de su historia, invitándoles a mirar siempre más allá de su futuro. Además, el cine documental juega con ideas que inspiran a la gente a movilizarse a reflexionar sobre su entorno y realidad.
Daysi se ve a sà misma como una cineasta recolectora de historias dedica a recuperar las luchas sociales y los recuerdos de la sociedad, contribuyendo a un cambio real a través de la conciencia visual de varios temas de la sociedad. Ella cree que la gente puede ser completamente conmovida y comprometida en temas sociales cuando ven imágenes que vivamente los involucra en las pantallas.

Daysi Burbano H.

Daysi Burbano was born in Quito-Ecuador. After studying Social Media Communication and Journalism at the Catholic University of Ecuador, she started to work as an independent media consultant for local enterprises, governmental and non-governmental organizations in Ecuador.
Daysi holds a MFA in Social Documentary Film from the School of Visual Arts, NY. In her work has addressed critical realities such as migration, gender violence, and Pollution in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
At the same time she volunteered at the NGO “Ecological Action” where she was an ecological activist in charge of several cultural activities.
Daysi has produced 5 short documentaries: “Amazon Campaign for Life, ITT-Yasunà Project” - 2008, “Insulated in the Jungle” - 2010, “Chronicles of a goal” 2010, “Sons of migration” - 2009. She worked with the co-production of the SinPepa Producciones collective and Acción Ecológica.
In NYC, she has produced 6 short documentary films. These tasks have helped her to broad her visual horizons: "ChinaTown"-citysymphony(2014); "Illustration, a passion"(2014); "My Second Chance"(2014)"; "American Dream"(2015); "My back up Plan" (2015); "Stories of Dance" (2015); "Take Me Home" (2015).
"Mother Moon" is her first feature film. In March of 2017 this documentary won three post-production awards in the WIP Femcine7, in Chile.
In that same year, "Madre Luna" (WIP) was a winning project of competitive public funds in the category: postproduction of the documentary feature of the ICCA (Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Creation in Ecuador).

Daysi believes that Social Documentary Films inject hope into people’s present through the projection of their past while inviting them to always look beyond towards their future. Furthermore, Documentary Cinema plays with ideas that inspire people to mobilize. Daysi sees herself as a filmmaker that is and will be dedicated to recover the social struggles and memories of society, contributing towards a real change through visual consciousness of society´s main issues. She believes people can be fully captured and engaged in social topics when they see images that vividly immerges them into the film. Daysi is a storyteller committed to make social documentaries that are honest and objective, but also that allow people to feel a connection with a different reality of their own.
